What do Flamenco, Ranchera music and the Mexico Symphony orchestra have in common?

A new song by Mexican Lila Downs and Spanish Buika aroused my curiosity and that's how I became acquainted with a remarkable project initiated by Alondra de la Parra, who proudly conducts Mexico City's Philharmonic.

Alondra initiated a project bringing together Spanish and Mexican performers, performing from the best Latin repertoire of the 20th century.

On the stage stood together and separately Pitingo, a Gypsy Flamenco singer from Seville best known for a renewed performance of pop classics, Buika, a black singer born in Equatorial Guinea but raised in Majorca, and Lila Downs, with her deep voice, who has long been considered to be the propagator of traditional Mexican music among Western audiences.

Together they performed classics such as Cucurru Cucu, Adoro and Hasta que te conoci. The latter is a remake of Juan Gabriel's original and charming performance that caught my attention:
